Q:  What is UltraSync Portable (USP)?

A.   UltraSync Portable is a software program that provides easy-to-use, portable features for synchronizing your PC's critical digital content to a backup USB storage device.   UltraSync Portable simply installs to a removable storage device of your choosing, such as a USB flash drive, USB/Firewire external hard drive or even a flash memory card.  From there, UltraSync Portable allows you to choose important documents, music, Outlook e-mail, Internet Explorer favorites and other files/directories to synchronize to your removable storage device.  USP also provides the ability to take your Outlook e-mail with you on the go so that you can safely open, download and read your e-mail on a public computer.

Q.        What do I need to run UltraSync Portable?

A.         UltraSync Portable is compatible with Windows XP/Vista/7 computers.  UltraSync Portable installs to and runs from any type of removable storage device such as USB flash drives, USB/Firewire or network connected external hard drives and even flash memory cards.  Just make sure the portable storage device you select is large enough to store UltraSync Portable (12 MB) and all the files and folders you plan to backup.

Installing UltraSync Portable

Q.        How do I install UltraSync Portable?

A.         After you have purchased and downloaded UltraSync Portable, connect the removable storage device you plan to install USP on.  Once your computer has identified this device, begin by running the UltraSync Portable install .exe file.  The installation process will ask you to read and agree to the terms of the license agreement and then select the device you wish to install to.  Removable storage devices such as USB flash drives, USB external hard drives or flash memory cards will show up under the “USB Device Only” category.  If you choose an internal hard drive or a network connected drive it will only show up under the "Any Drive" category.  If you cannot find your removable device under the "USB Device Only" category, you can also select it from the "Any Drive" category.  Once you have found your device, click the “Install” button and all the files will be installed onto your removable storage device.

Q.        How do I install UltraSync Portable to a Shared Folder?

Q.        How do I upgrade UltraSync Portable to the newest version?

A.         You can install your upgrade version right over your existing version.  Begin by downloading the newest version of UltraSync Portable to your PC.  You will have to run the install file from the PC that you originally installed UltraSync Portable with, otherwise USP will not recognize your original purchased license.  UltraSync Portable will replace the files that need updating and leave your personal data intact.

Q.        If the system that I originally used to install UltraSync Portable on my removable storage device is XP, can I only use UltraSync Portable on XP systems?

A.         No, it does not matter what operating system was on the system you used to install UltraSync Portable to your removable storage device, you may still use UltraSync Portable on any Windows XP/Vista/7 system that supports your removable storage device.

Q.        What do I do if I try to install UltraSync Portable and get a write protect error?

A.         Check to make sure the write protect switch is turned off on your removable storage device and try installing again.

Q.        How many times can I install UltraSync Portable?

A.         After purchasing a license, you are free to install UltraSync Portable as many times as you want, on as many devices as you want as long as it is for your personal use.  You will always be required to install UltraSync Portable from the PC you originally activated from so that your license can be verified.  However, you are prohibited from sharing your UltraSync Portable software with other people.

Q.        How do I transfer UltraSync Portable and its contents from my removable storage device to a new one?

A.         First, install UltraSync Portable to your new removable storage device.  Then copy the “UltraSyncPortable” folder from the old device and merge it with the “UltraSyncPortable” folder on the new device.

Q.        How do I remove UltraSync Portable from my removable storage device?

            A.         You can simply delete it or reformat the removable storage device.

Using UltraSync Portable

Q.        How do I synchronize files?

A.         To begin syncing your files, you first have to create a "Sync Profile".  Upon running UltraSync Portable for the first time, you will be prompted to create a sync profile.  If you skipped this option the first time, you can still access the profile editor under "Settings" -> "Sync Selection" and then choosing "Settings" under "Files and Folders".  This will bring you to "Folder Selection".  Under this window, you can choose the directories that you would like UltraSync Portable to synchronize.  The menu offers    five built-in choices of "Documents", "Pictures", "Browser Favorites", "Video" and "Music".  If you would like to choose your own specific directories to sync, you can do that in the box below.  Click next to continue.  On the next window, you can choose specific file filters for the directories to sync.  Finally, on the last window you can choose specific files that you would like to sync within these directories.  Once you have      finished setting up your profile, simply press the Sync button on the main dashboard to have UltraSync Portable synchronize to your removable storage device.

Q.        I mistakenly removed my USB storage device before UltraSync Portable finished synchronizing, what do I do now?

A.         Plug your storage device back in and start UltraSync Portable again.  Press the Sync button in order to complete the synchronization process and ensure all file have been properly transferred.

Q.        What is the Partnership feature?

A.         The UltraSync Portable Partnership feature allows you to synchronize digital content between two PCs.

Q.        How do I use the Partnership feature?

A.         To use the UltraSync Portable Partnership feature, you need to create a sync     profile on the first PC of the Partnership and then press the Sync button to synchronize    your data onto your removable storage device.  Now you can insert your removable storage device into the second PC of the Partnership, run UltraSync Portable and select the "Create Partnership" option under the Profile Editor.  You will be prompted to select   the "Parent Computer", that would be the first PC you synced for the Partnership.  On the following screens, you will be able to configure the Partnership sync properties just like a normal sync profile.  Once you have completed this process your Partnership is finalized and you can now press the Sync button on the dashboard to synchronize your data over to the second PC.

Q.        How do I use the Portable Outlook E-mail feature?

A.         To begin using the Portable Outlook feature, you need to first configure UltraSync Portable to synchronize your Outlook .pst file to your removable storage device.  Under the profile editor, choose Outlook Settings.  Under Outlook Profile and Folder Selection, you will be able to select the desired Outlook Account Profile from a pull down menu in case you have multiple Outlook e-mail profiles on the same PC.  After       selecting the Outlook Account Profile, you can choose with Outlook Folders you would   like to include in your sync.  Please note that the amount of Outlook account data that you want to sync for use with Portable E-mail will be limited by the storage capacity of your removable storage device.  Once you have completed the Outlook configuration, press the Sync button to synchronize your selected Outlook Account folders along with the rest of your sync profile.  Now you are free to take your removable storage device to other computers and use your own Outlook e-mail.  Just make sure Outlook is closed on the host computer before pressing the Portable Outlook button on the UltraSync Portable Dashboard.

Q.        How do I use the Portable Internet Explorer Favorites feature?

A.         First make sure that your "Browser Favorites" are among the folders that are chosen under the Profile Editor.  Now, perform a Sync to make sure your Internet Explorer Favorites have been synchronized to your removable storage device.  Now you can take your removable storage device to another computer, run UltraSync Portable and use the Browser Favorites button the Dashboard.

Q.        How do I check the version number of UltraSync Portable?

A.         On the UltraSync Portable dashboard, choose "Help" -> "About" to see the version number.
